Research Interests

Born in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil, Rita Helena Sousa Ferreira Gomes has a Ph.D. in Philosophy. In 2005, as a Ph.D. student, she had a scholarship for improving her research about Hobbes’ philosophy at Université du Quebec à Montreal. Since 2007, Rita has been an Assistant Professor at Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC) Sobral’s Campus, teaching several courses at UFC: Introduction to philosophy (Psychology); Ethics and psychology (Psychology); Modern philosophy (Psychology); Aesthetics (Music); Topics on ethics (Music); Science, Technology and Society (Computer Engineering and Electric Engineering). Rita coordinates two extension projects: Cinefilos and Companhia do Barro, which both articulate aspects of art and philosophy as a way to develop a more critical and complete human formation. She is the coordinator of the Program of Cooperative Learning at the Sobral Campus. Recently, Rita has been conducting research concerning philosophy of education, specifically, the articulation between modern epistemology and art education.
